Sherra Dowling Joins AMCATS as Associate Athletic Trainer

PAXTON, MA - Sherra Dowling has been named Associate Athletic Trainer at Anna Maria College. She will work directly with Head Athletic Trainer John Shliapa to provide medical care to student-athletes, supervise athletic practices and competitions, and ensure student-athlete
medical clearance, among other duties.

Dowling is very familiar with the Worcester area, coming to Anna Maria from her most recent position at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where she served as both a part-time and full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer since 2021. She also has leadership experience as Head Athletic Trainer at Mount Saint Charles Academy from 2019 to 2020.

Dowling is well-prepared for the role, having graduated from Merrimack College with a Master of Science in Athletic Training and a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Franklin Pierce University. In addition to being NATA Board and CPR/AED certified, Dowling is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and has experience as a medical assistant at the Orthopedic Associates of Marlborough, where she worked directly with orthopedic surgeons and patients in need from 2020 to 2022.

Dowling expressed her gratitude and excitement to begin her career as an AMCAT, saying, "I'm very excited to be joining the Sports Medicine staff at Anna Maria College this Fall. Thank you to the Athletic Director and the Athletic Department for the opportunity to be a part of the AMCAT community. I am looking forward to working with the staff and supporting the student-athletes throughout the upcoming year."
