Baseball Returns From Florida With Big Win Over New England College

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - Anna Maria College returned from Florida with a big win over New England College, defeating the Pilgrims 10-2 in a non-conference collegiate baseball game on Wednesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

With the win, the AMCATS improve their overall record to 6-3.

Anna Maria opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Avery Acuna drove in a run on a fielder's choice to give the AMCATS an early 1-0 lead.

New England College evened the score in the top of the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

The AMCATS took control in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jonathan Guardascione sparked the rally with a two-run home run to right field, putting Anna Maria ahead 3-1. Later in the inning, Acuna delivered again with an RBI double down the left field line, before Justin Chiulli capped the inning with a two-RBI double to right field to stretch the lead to 6-1.

Anna Maria continued to add on in the seventh inning. Brayden Wright drove in a run with a double to right center, and Mason Kolczewski followed with an RBI single, extending the lead to 8-1.

New England College added a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI groundout to shortstop, making it 8-2, but the AMCATS answered in the bottom half of the inning as Kolczewski drove in a run on a fielder's choice, and Evan Dumeny followed with an RBI single to center field, sealing the 10-2 advantage.

John Daley was spectacular on the mound, striking out 11 batters in seven innings, with zero walks, zero earned runs, while allowing just three hits against 27 batters faced.

Anna Maria jumps right back into action with a home game against Lesley on Thursday, March 12th, beginning at 2 p.m.
