Baseball Opens MASCAC Play With Win Over MCLA

PAXTON, Mass. - Anna Maria College opened Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 10-0 victory over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

With the win, the AMCATS open conference play with a 1-0 record and improve to 10-6 overall.

Anna Maria hosted the game as the visiting team due to unplayable field conditions at MCLA's home field.

The AMCATS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just four pitches into the game, with Mason Kolczewski reaching on a single, followed by a two-run home run by Brady Aylward, his first of the season, to give Anna Maria the early advantage after one inning of play.

Anna Maria struck again in the top of the sixth, using a double steal to place runners on second and third. Brayden Wright then doubled over the left fielder's head to drive in a pair of runs. Jaiden Driscoll followed with an RBI single to left, and another run came across on a passed ball to extend the lead to 6-0.

The AMCATS added insurance in the top of the ninth. Avery Acuna doubled off the top of the left field fence before Andrew Denison drove him in with an RBI triple down the right field line. Kolczewski followed with an RBI double, and both Josh Batchelder and Evan Dumney added sacrifice flies to push the lead to its final margin of 10-0.

Jesse Buonocore got the start on the mound for Anna Maria, delivering seven dominant innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits and no runs to earn his third win of the season.

John Daley pitched a clean eighth inning with a strikeout, and Conor Francesconi closed out the game in the ninth, striking out one to complete the shutout.

Anna Maria returns to action on Friday, March 27, for a road matchup against MASCAC rival Framingham State University at 3 p.m.
