Baseball Falls to John Carroll in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Anna Maria College was defeated 19-2 in eight innings by John Carroll University on the fifth day of its Spring Break trip. With the loss, the AMCATS moved to 2-3 overall to start the season in Florida.

John Carroll established a commanding 13-run lead over the first two innings, before the AMCATS responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Andrew Denison singled, and Jeremiah Douglas came in to pinch run, advancing to third after Justin Chiulli reached first on an error by the first baseman. Brady Alyward forced a walk, loading the bases for Josh Batchelder, who singled to score a run from third. Jonathan Guardascione then walked to drive in the second AMCAT run of the inning.

From there, the Blue Streaks added to their lead in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, putting the game out of reach for Anna Maria.

Six pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts, with Sean Sage finding the most success, pitching three innings in relief, striking out seven batters while allowing just two hits and one earned run.

The AMCATS return to action on Friday, March 6, to continue their Florida trip with a 10:30 a.m. start against Wentworth Institute of Technology.
