Baseball Dealt First Loss by Rose-Hulman
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Anna Maria College was dealt its first loss of the season, falling 10-6 to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in a non-conference baseball game at Lake Myrtle Field.
With the loss, the AMCATS move to 2-1 overall on the season.
The Fightin' Engineers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play, but the AMCATS answered in the top of the fourth. Freshman Brayden Wright continued his hot start with an RBI single to score the first Anna Maria run of the game. His classmate, Mason Kolczewski, followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in another run, before Evan Dumeny tied the game with a two-run home run to cap the inning at 4-4.
Rose-Hulman responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and added three more in the sixth to take a 9-4 advantage. Brady Aylward drove in two runs on a single in the top of the seventh to bring Anna Maria closer, but Rose-Hulman added an insurance run in the eighth to extend the lead to 10-6 and secure the win.
Kolczewski finished 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Dumeny went 1-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk. Aylward added a 1-for-3 performance with two walks, two RBIs, and one run scored.
Dylan Salazar started on the mound, striking out two batters over 3.1 innings of work.
Anna Maria returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, for a 4:30 p.m. start against Chatham.
