Baseball Picks Up Win Over Wentworth in Florida
AUBURNDALE, Fla. - Anna Maria College earned a 7-3 victory over the Wentworth Institute of Technology during its Spring Break trip in Florida, improving to 3-3 on the season.
After two scoreless innings, Anna Maria struck first in the top of the third inning when Brayden Wright delivered an RBI single through the right side to bring home Brady Aylward and give the AMCATS an early 1-0 advantage.
The AMCATS broke the game open in the top of the sixth inning with four runs. Justin Chiulli reached on a fielding error by the second baseman, allowing Jaiden Driscoll to score while Andrew Denison advanced to third. Brady Aylward followed with an RBI single to left field that plated Denison. Jonathan Guardascione capped the rally with a two-RBI single to center field, bringing home both Aylward and Chiulli as Anna Maria extended its lead.
Wentworth responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Anna Maria added insurance in the top of the ninth when Chiulli lined a two-RBI single to right-center field, scoring Denison and Driscoll to seal the victory.
The AMCATS totaled 12 hits in the game, with Wright going an impressive 4-for-5 with an RBI and a double. Andrew Denison went a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and a walk while scoring twice.
Jesse Buonocore picked up his second win of the season, striking out five batters across seven innings while allowing just five hits and two earned runs. Conor Francesconi earned the save, pitching two scoreless innings with one strikeout.
The AMCATS return to action on Saturday, March 7, when they face Thomas (ME) in a doubleheader to close out their Florida trip.
