Baseball Sweeps Framingham to Remain Undefeated in MASCAC Play
UPTON, Mass. - Anna Maria College swept Framingham State University in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Blackstone Valley Technical High School.
With the first win, Head Coach Dan Briand, the winningest coach in Anna Maria baseball history, picked up his 150th career victory, joining just three other Anna Maria coaching legends, including current Head Basketball Coach Shawn Conrad.
GAME ONE: Anna Maria 7, Framingham State 5
After allowing a run in the top of the first, the AMCATS answered immediately in the bottom half, loading the bases for Brayden Wright, who delivered with a two-run single to the gap in left center field. The AMCATS loaded the bases again later in the inning, setting up Aidan Landers, who singled to right field to give Anna Maria a 3-1 lead.
Brady Aylward added to the lead in the second with a sacrifice fly, before the AMCATS tacked on two more in the third. Avery Acuna started the rally with an RBI double down the left field line, followed by a groundout from Landers that brought home another run to make it 6-3.
Framingham State cut the deficit to one with two runs in the fourth, but Anna Maria responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Jonathan Guardascione delivered an RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 7-5.
Owen Sullivan got the start on the mound for the AMCATS, pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on four hits.
GAME TWO: Anna Maria 6, Framingham State 5
After a scoreless first inning, Framingham State struck for two runs in the second. The AMCATS answered in the bottom half of the inning, tying the game at 2-2 on an RBI single from Wright and a sacrifice fly from Landers.
The Rams held a 3-2 lead into the sixth before Anna Maria rallied. Andrew Denison brought home the tying run with a sacrifice bunt, and Mason Kolczewski followed with an RBI single to left center to give the AMCATS a 4-3 advantage.
Framingham State responded in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead, but the AMCATS had the final say. Three straight walks loaded the bases with no outs, and Riley Grindle put the ball in play, forcing an error by the third baseman that allowed the tying run to score. Landers then delivered the game-winner with a walk-off sacrifice fly to left field, sealing the 6-5 victory.
Jesse Buonocore pitched all seven innings for Anna Maria, striking out seven to earn his fourth win of the season.
Anna Maria returns to action on Monday, March 30, hosting MCLA for a MASCAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
