Men’s Lacrosse Earns First Win Over Cairn University

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. - Anna Maria College earned its first win of the season with a commanding 21-8 victory in a non-conference collegiate men's lacrosse game on Wednesday at the G. Patrick Stillman Athletic Complex.

The AMCATS improved to 1-4 on the season with the win.

After Cairn scored first, Anna Maria quickly took control in the opening quarter, building a 6-3 lead. Jacob Martin sparked the surge with back-to-back goals, while Nicholas Hussa and Kyle Pickering each added a score. Hussa struck again before Miles Cormier closed out the quarter with a goal of his own.

Anna Maria extended its advantage in the second quarter with a 5-0 run. Martin opened the scoring to make it 7-3, followed by goals from Pickering and Martin again to push the lead to 9-3. Cormier added another before Martin completed the run with his third goal of the quarter, giving the AMCATS an 11-3 cushion.

Cairn opened the third quarter with a goal, but Hussa and Martin answered with back-to-back scores to establish a 13-4 lead. After a three-goal rally by the Highlanders, Anna Maria responded with an eight-goal run that spanned from 6:26 left in the third quarter to 3:05 left in the fourth. The run featured goals from Hussa, Aidan Maisen, Hussa again, Pickering, Cormier, Martin, Farrell, and Martin once more to put the game out of reach.

Anna Maria's attack was led by Martin with eight goals and two assists, while Hussa added five goals. Cormier scored three goals and a team-high 10 assists, finishing with 13 points, the highest single-game number in team history. Pickering also had three goals, adding an assist. Farrell and Maisen also scored, with Farrell providing two assists and Maisen one.

In goal, Tyler Davidson played all 60 minutes for the AMCATS, making 11 saves to secure the win.

Anna Maria returns to action on Saturday, March 7th, with a home game against Salem State beginning at noon.
