WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH CONFERENCE WIN OVER SAINTS
BOSTON, MA- On Saturday February 22nd the Anna Maria College women's basketball team traveled to Boston, MA to take on the Saints of Emmanuel College. The AMCATS won the game 63 to 58.
The first quarter the AMCATS and the Saints would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Saints. The AMCATS would capitalize on the Saints turnovers and turn them into offensive momentum and points on the score board. It would be the Saints though that would continue to battle until the first quarter would run out to pull ahead of the AMCATS at the end of the first quarter by 3 points. It would be the Saints leading the AMCATS 15 to 12 at the end of the first quarter.
The AMCATS would need to come out strong offensively as they did in the first quarter and lock down on the defensive side of the ball to take the lead against the Saints. It would be the AMCATS to have offensive momentum and points in the game and take total control of the Saints in the second quarter. The AMCATS would not only dominate offensively against the Saints in the second but would lock it down defensively, to silence the Saints in the second, scoring 15 points and limiting the Saints to 9. The AMCATS would head to halftime in the lead over the Saints with a score of 27 to 24.
The AMCATS would look to keep the offensive momentum in the third quarter, and the Saints off the score board as they did in the second quarter. It would be the Saints though to continue to battle against the AMCATS and not give up. The third quarter would be similar the first quarter as both teams would go basket for basketball. It would be the AMCATS to pull ahead by two points, but it would be the Saints to tie the AMCATS before the third quarter would end. It would be both teams to get 16 points each in the third quarter. The score at the end of three would be 43 to 40 in favor of the AMCATS.
The AMCATS with the lead would look to hold off the Saints, in the fourth quarter and bring the offensive momentum. The AMCATS would come out strong and capitalize on rebounds to start the quarter against the Saints. Despite the Saints trying to force a comeback against the AMCATS it would be the AMCATS to lock it down on defense and put up 20 points on offense in the fourth and limit the Saints to 18 points. The AMCATS strong defensive and offensive skills and momentum would lead them past the Saints with a score of 63 to 58.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Sharayah Scott-Cummins would lead the AMCATS against the Saints for a season high putting up 23 points.
- Marinique Reddin would lead the AMCATS with 9 rebounds, and 6 defensive rebounds against the Saints.
- The AMCATS would end their regular season with their fifth conference win in a row.
COMING UP:
The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday February 25th for the GNAC quarterfinals where they will travel to Connecticut to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College. Opening Tip-Off is set for 5:30pm.
