WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SECURES THEIR THIRD STRAIGHT GNAC WIN OVER THE PRIDE
WESTON, MA- On Tuesday, January 7th the Anna Maria College women's basketball team traveled to Weston, MA to take on the for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 86-70.
In the first quarter, the AMCATS and the Pride would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Pride. The first quarter would be close for the AMCATS and the Pride, but it would be the AMCATS to put up two extra points before the first quarter would end. The AMCATS would end the first quarter ahead of the Pride 19 to 17, with a two-point lead. The AMCATS would look to go into the second quarter, with more offensive momentum and a stronger offensive mindset against the Pride, so they can pull away from the Pride and gain a larger lead. The AMCATS would do just that as they would silence the Pride, putting up 22 points and limiting the AMCATS to 16 points in the second quarter. That lead would increase the AMCATS lead at the half by 8 points, with the AMCATS having 41 points and the Pride having 33 points.
Heading into the third quarter, the AMCATS would need to come out strong and continuing the strong offensive momentum and pressure against the Pride. It would be the Pride to stick around with the AMCATS, not giving up in the game. As the third quarter would go basket for basketball like the first quarter with both teams putting up points. The third quarter would not end in the AMCATS favor as the Pride would put up two extra points over the AMCATS in the third quarter. The Pride would outscore the AMCATS in the third quarter with the AMCATS having 22 points and the Pride having 24 points. It would still be the AMCATS in the lead over the Pride, heading to the fourth despite being outscored in the third quarter with a score of 63 to 57
In the fourth quarter the AMCATS would need to look to go all out in the fourth quarter and lock down on defense and bring the offensive momentum and pressure. The AMCATS would do just that against the Pride in the fourth as they would completely dominate the Pride taking their offensive pressure and momentum to a new level, putting up 23 points against the Pride. It would be the AMCATS to not only silence the Pride in the fourth quarter but would limit them to only 13 points. The offensive pressure, and defensive mindset would be all the AMCATS needed to dominate the Pride in the fourth quarter of the game to beat the Pride of Regis College 86 to 70.
