WOMEN'S BASKETBALL CAN'T COMEBACK AGAINST RAIDERS
PAXTON, MA- On Tuesday January 21, 2025 the Anna Maria College women's basketball team hosted the Raiders of Rivier University The AMCATS lost the game
The first quarter the AMCATS and the Raiders would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Raiders. The Raiders would find a two-point jump shot late in the first quarter, to pull ahead of the AMCATS at the end of the first. It would be the Raiders to be up against the AMCATS 17 to 15 at the end of the first quarter.
The AMCATS would look to come out strong in the second quarter if they wanted to gain a lead against the Raiders. It would be a similar story as the first in the second quarter for both teams, as they would each go point for point on the scoreboard. As the second quarter would wind down, the Raiders would be finding themselves gaining a lead on the AMCATS. The AMCATS would continue the offensive pressure, but it would be the Raiders to put up five more points than the AMCATS leading them in the second quarter with 25 points and the AMCATS 17 points. The AMCATS would head to the locker room for halftime down to the Raiders with a score of 42 to 35.
The AMCATS would need to use this intermission to reset themselves and bring the offensive pressure against the Raiders. The AMCATS would look to not only come with constant pressure offensively but also to lock down on the defensive side of the ball against the Raiders. The AMCATS did not get what they hoped for in the third quarter against the Raiders. The Raiders would bring all the offensive pressure in the third quarter and would limit the AMCATS offensive opportunities. The Raiders would put up 23 points in the third quarter and would limit the AMCATS to only 17 points. The AMCATS would head to the fourth quarter down to the Raiders with a score of 65 to 52.
The AMCATS would need to use this last quarter to give it all they had against the Raiders. The AMCATS needed to come out strong offensively in the fourth quarter against the Raiders if they wanted to force a comeback. The AMCATS would bring the intense pressure and offensive momentum but the AMCATS come back would fall short in the fourth quarter despite outscoring the Raiders 16 to 14 in the fourth it was not enough points overall as the AMCATS would fall to the Raiders 79 to 68.
