WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PICKS UP FIRST GNAC WIN OF THE SEASON OVER PILGRIMS

PAXTON, MA - On Saturday January 4^th, 2025, the Anna Maria College women's basketball team would host the Pilgrims of New England College. The AMCATS would win the game 66-49. 

In the first quarter, the AMCATS and the Pilgrims would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Pilgrims. The first quarter would end in a draw with both teams putting up 11 points each. The AMCATS would look to go into the second quarter, with more offensive momentum and a stronger offensive mindset against the Pilgrims. The AMCATS however, would not come out the way they hoped as the Pilgrims would control the second quarter, not only on defense but also offensively. The Pilgrims would limit the AMCATS to only 9 points in the second quarter and would manage to put up 15 points. The second half would end with the AMCATS down to the Pilgrims 26 to 20. 

Heading into the third quarter, the AMCATS would need to come out strong, and would have plenty of time to do so, to pull out the come from behind win against the Pilgrims. The AMCATS would come out exactly how they needed to as they would totally dominate the Pilgrims in the third quarter. Putting on not only the defensive pressure to keep them off the board but would also totaling control the scoreboard. It would be the AMCATS to put up 20 points against the Pilgrims and silencing the Pilgrims to only 7 points on the score board in the third quarter. The AMCATS with a totally dominating and strong third quarter would now take the lead at the end of the third over the Pilgrims 40 to 33. 

In the fourth quarter the AMCATS would need to use their momentum from the third quarter, to remain in the lead and end the game with a win. The AMCATS would dominate in the fourth, taking their offensive pressure and momentum to a new level, putting up 26 points against the Pilgrims. It would be the AMCATS to not only silence the Pilgrims in the fourth quarter but would limit them to only 16 points. The offensive pressure, and defensive mindset would be all the AMCATS needed to dominate the Pilgrims in the second half of the game to pull out the come from behind win against the Pilgrims 66 to 49. 

 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• Kiara Gauthier would lead the AMCATS against the Pilgrims putting up 18 points. 
• Madison Paulhus would lead the AMCATS in rebounds with 11 total and 10 defensive rebounds. 
• This would mark the AMCATS first GNAC game this year, making it there first GNAC win of the season. 

 COMING UP:

The AMCATS will be back in action on Tuesday January 7, 2025, where they will travel up north to Vermont to take on the Cadets of Norwich University. Opening tip-off is set for 1:00pm.
