Men's Hockey Handles Raiders At Home

AUBURN, MA - On Thursday, January 30th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team hosted the Rivier University Raiders for a MASCAC conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 5-1.

The AMCATS kicked the game off early with a goal from Guillaume Coulombe less than two minutes into the first period. The game wouldn't see its next goal until over twenty minutes later when the Raiders tied things up six minutes into the second period. It was Dylan McElhinney who would regain the AMCATS lead after burying a goal off a pass from Liam Wells. Keeping the momentum, Brandon Della Paolera capitalized on an AMCATS power play to make it 3-1 as the second period came to a close. 

With a two goal lead over the Raiders, the AMCATS struck early in the third period as Matthew Gilbert found the back of the net off a play from Liam Wells and Tobias Omholt to improve the AMCATS lead to three goals. Pearce Baker put the game to rest with an empty net goal with nearly fifteen seconds left on the clock to secure a 5-1 win for the AMCATS. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Matthew Gilbert has scored in all but five games so far this season.
  • Matthew Gilbert ranks fifth in the MASCAC for goals this season with 11.
  • The AMCATS are 6-2 since returning from winter break.

COMING UP:

Men's ice hockey will be back in action on Saturday, February 1st where they will head to Framingham, MA to take on the Rams of Framingham State University. Opening puck drop is set for 7:50pm.
