MEN'S HOCKEY SINKS PILGRIMS 5-2 ON THE ROAD
Henniker, NH - On Tuesday, December 10th the Anna Maria College Men's ice hockey team traveled to New England College where they would win the game 5-2.
Braeden McKinnon would find the back of the net for the AMCATS just :29 second into the game giving the AMCATS the early lead. McKinnon would beat the goalie on the rush shooting right over the glove. The play would continue back and forth until Brandon Della Paolera would put home the rebound from the shot of Matthew Byrne to add to the AMCATS lead. NEC would be quick to cut that lead in half when David Novotny found a rebound out front. It would be the AMCATS continuing to push the offensive pressure and would not give up. As it would be just 1:28 later that the AMCATS would regain the two-goal lead when Jeremy Dewar would blast one past the goalie from the point. The AMCATS would go into the locker room up 3-1 against the Pilgrims.
The second period would start off with a goal from Wyatt Andres in the slot to cut the lead for the AMCATS back down to one. Despite the powerful offense in the second period that the AMCATS would bring against the Pilgrims the AMCATS would be kept off the board. As the Pilgrims goalie would deny all the AMCATS scoring chances and opportunities in the second. The Pilgrims would get their scoring chances in the second period as well with offensive chances but the strong defensive play from the AMCATS, would keep the Pilgrims off the board. As both teams were denied scoring opportunities with back-and-forth action in the second it would send the AMCATS back to the locker room up a goal looking to grow the lead in the third. The third period would go in Anna Maria's favor as they would add another goal onto the scoreboard to open up the third period. It would be Brandon Della Paolera who would get his second goal of the game as he buried the puck from just inside the blue line on the powerplay. The AMCATS would continue to put on the pressure against the Pilgrims, not letting up putting as many shots and creating as many scoring opportunities on the NEC goalie. All that offensive pressure would result in the AMCATS to add one last goal at the 8:30 minute mark as Braeden McKinnon found the blocked shot off the NEC defender for his second goal of the game. The AMCATS would take down the Pilgrims with a score of 5 to 2.
