Men's Hockey Beats Nichols 4-1 In Worcester Cup Championship
WORCESTER, MA - On Sunday, November 3rd the Anna Maria College men's soccer team faced the Nichols College Bison for the Worcester Cup Championship. The AMCATS won the game 4-1.
The Bison would take an early lead over the AMCATS in the first period after Josh Dickson scored off a pass from Dimitri Voyatzis to make it a 1-0 game. The remainder of the first period would go scoreless with Matt Hennessey stopping 10 shots to keep the Bison lead to just one.
After the intermission, the AMCATS hit the ground running with a quick goal from Christopher Friberg off a pass from Derek Raposo just three minutes into the second period. Tied up at one, the AMCATS would soon take the lead after Spencer Carpenter scored with some help from Friberg. Holding onto the lead, the AMCATS added some insurance as time began to run out in the second period with freshman Adam Redding scoring off a play from Braeden McKinnon and Raposo.
Leading 3-1 over the Bison, the AMCATS would score their fourth and final goal late in the third period off the stick of Raposo. The AMCATS final goal would be assisted by Pearce Baker and Owen Barrow. Matthew Hennessey would stop 33 out of 34 shots in the AMCATS effort against the Bison.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Matthew Hennesseys performance against the Bison would earn him Tournament MVP of the Worcester Cup.
- Christopher Friberg would score his first career NCAA goal against the Bison.
- Adam Redding would also score his first career NCAA goal against the Bison.
- Derek Raposo ended the AMCATS first weekend of play with an impressive 6 points (1 G; 5 A).
- The AMCATS won their first Worcester Cup Championship in the programs history.

The AMCATS will be back in action on Saturday, November 9th where they will host the Morrisville State College Mustangs for their first home game of the season. Opening puckdrop is set for 6:40pm at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA.
