A Pair Of Third Period Goals Secures 4-2 Win Over Trailblazers At Home
AUBURN, MA - On Thursday, January 9th the Anna Maria College men's ice hockey team hosted the Trailblazers of MCLA for a MASCAC Conference matchup. The AMCATS won't the game 4-2.
The game got off to a slow start with the first goal coming just over seventeen minutes into the first period. It was the Trailblazers who would end up striking first with a goal tipped in by Easton Moore off a shot from Luke Rhoss. Unable to tie the game up, the AMCATS found themselves trailing by one as the first period came to a close.
It wasn't long before the AMCATS got themselves up on the board however after Braeden McKinnon buried the equalizer just eight seconds into the second period. Matthew Byrne and Derek Raposo notched the assists on the goal. Almost ten minutes later, Matthew Gilbert gave the AMCATS the lead with a power play goal to make it a 2-1 game. The AMCATS lead was short-lived however as the Trailblazers managed to bury a backdoor goal off the face-off just under a minute later. The second period would close out with both teams locked in at two goals a piece.
Neither team found the back of the net until late in the third period when Derek Raposo regained the lead for the AMCATS off a pass from Braeden McKinnon. Holding onto the lead, the AMCATS locked things down in the third period only allowing five shots compared to their 13. With almost three minutes left to play, the AMCATS would tack on an insurance goal off the stick of Liam Wells. Matthew Gilbert would get credited for the assist on the AMCATS fourth and final goal of the evening.

- Derek Raposo continues to lead the AMCATS in points with 15 so far this season in just 12 games played.
- Braeden McKinnon ranks second for the AMCATS with 13 points on the season
- After just 28 games played so far in his career, Matthew Hennessey sits just 81 saves away from his 1000th career save with the AMCATS.

Men's ice hockey will be back in action on Saturday, January 11th where they will host the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth for a MASCAC Conference matchup. Opening puck drop is set for 6:40pm at the Horgan Arena in Auburn, MA.
