Men's Basketball Prevails Over Rivier 72-70

PAXTON, MA– On Tuesday January 21, 2025, the Anna Maria College men's basketball team would host the Raiders of Rivier University . The AMCATS would beat the Raiders

In the first half, the AMCATS and the Raiders would battle it out, going basket for basket. Both teams would bring the offensive momentum putting up points on the scoreboard, the AMCATS would go point for point in the first quarter against the Raiders. The Raiders would find a few extra baskets and some free throws to pull ahead of the AMCATS to end the first half of the game. Despite the extra points the Raiders would get at the end of the first half, the AMCATS would only be down to the Raiders by six points with the score of 39 to 33.

The AMCATS would look to go into the second half, with the same offensive momentum but stronger as they would need to pull out a come from behind win against the Raiders. The AMCATS would continue to battle against the Raiders and stay strong not only offensively but would also tighten up their defensive play in the second half which is what they needed to do if they wanted to take the lead over the Raiders. The story would be like the first half for both teams, bringing a strong offensive game each trading opportunities going basket for basket. As the half would continue the AMCATS would look to continue the powerful play over the Raiders and the strong offensive momentum and point scoring to gain the lead over the Raiders. The AMCATS would find themselves digging deep against the Raiders, getting multiple steals in the second half and turning them into points on the scoreboard. The strong offensive mindset of the AMCATS would secure them with a huge three pointer with thirty seconds left to play and would pull the AMCATS ahead of the Raiders by four points. The clock would continue to wind down, and the AMCATS would continue the strong defensive pressure, while the Raiders were doing all they could to put points back up to regain their lead against the AMCATS. It would be AMCATS Gabe Armstead to make a huge defensive block with 4 seconds left to play in the game to deny the Rivier Raiders points on the scoreboard to come within one point of the AMCATS. The last four seconds would wind down off the scoreboard and a Jayden Dickerson would make two free throws to add to the lead for the AMCATS. The AMCAST would put up 39 points in the second half and limit the Raiders to 31. The strong offensive mindset and huge defensive play in the second half from the AMCATS would secure their two-point win against the Raiders.
