Men's Basketball Second Half Surge Leads To Win Over Pilgrims
PAXTON, MA - On Saturday, January 4th the Anna Maria College men's basketball team hosted the Pilgrims of New England College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The AMCATS won the game 86-66.
The AMCATS took an early lead over the Pilgrims in the first half, keeping their distance as the game went on. Gabe Armstead would put up 12 of the AMCATS 39 points in the first half, shooting 100 percent in FGM (4-4), 3PM (2-2) and FTM (2-2). The AMCATS as a whole shot a whopping 83% from outside the three point line in the first half.
Keeping their foot on the gas, the AMCATS put up another 47 points in the second half of play, driving a 20 point wedge between them and the Pilgrims. Ray Carter Jr. went 6 for 8 inside the paint with one free throw for 13 points in the second half. Carter would end up leading the AMCATS offense with 20 points on the day. The AMCATS would also finish with an 84% performance behind the free throw line which marks a season high for the team.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The AMCATS hit a season high in FG% (57.9) as well as FT% (84.6).
- Gabe Armstead continues to lead the AMCATS with 14.9 PPG in 11 games played this season.
- The AMCATS average over 80 points per game when playing at home.

Men's Basketball will be back in action on Tuesday, January 7th where they will head up north to take on the Cadets of Norwich University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Opening tip-off is set for 3:00pm.
