GNAC Announces All-Conference Awards
WINTHROP, MA - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its 2024 Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams and major award winners on Wednesday afternoon. Two Anna Maria student-athletes were featured among the major award winners with Rubelsi Moran earning Offensive Player of the Year honors, as well as Valter Santiago being named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Voting was conducted by the league's 15 men's soccer head coaches following the regular season and did not take postseason play into account.
Moran led the GNAC in both goals (16) and points (34) this past season for the AMCATS. Both of these numbers put Moran in the top-30 nationally. The senior collected 14 of those goals in conference play and five of those were game-winning goals, which both led the GNAC. He registered a point offensively in all but two GNAC contests on the year. Moran had three multi goal games including a hat trick in a win over Colby-Sawyer. The senior forward won Player of the Week honors twice this season on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7.
Santiago had a successful year in net for the AMCATS. The grad student finished second in the GNAC in both total saves (108) and save percentage (.824), both of which were also good to place him in the top-40 nationally. Santiago collected nine wins and played the entirety of every single 17 appearances he made. In those 17 appearances, he made four or more saves in 15 contests, including 12 against JWU and 13 against Colby-Sawyer. The grad student was named Goalie of the Week twice this year on Sept. 9 and Sept. 30.
