WOMEN’S LACROSSE CAN’T HOLD ON AGAINST PILGRIMS

HENNIKER, NH. – The Anna Maria Women's lacrosse team traveled to Henniker, NH to take on the Pilgrims of New England College for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game. The AMCATS lost the game 14 to 9.

The AMCATS would start the first quarter strong as the AMCATS would take a three nothing lead over the Pilgrims. The AMCATS would get two goals off the stick of Riley Michaud and one goal off the stick of Kelsey Wilson. That would put the AMCATS up against the Pilgrims 3 to 0. The Pilgrims would control the rest of play in the first quarter putting up three goals to tie the AMCATS at the end of the first quarter 3-3.

The AMCATS would look gain back some of the offensive momentum they had in the beginning of the first quarter. The second quarter would start out all Pilgrims with them putting up two goals against the AMCATS to gain the lead for the first time in the game. It would be the AMCATS to quickly get one back against the Pilgrims off a pass from Carly Drew to Christine Ijawet to score the fourth goal for the AMCATS. The AMCATS would be trailing by one to the Pilgrims. The next three goals in the second would not go in the AMCATS favor as they would be all Pilgrims, building a stronger lead for the Pilgrims over the AMCAST in the second with a score of 8 to 4. It would be again the AMCATS to be next to respond to the Pilgrims three consecutive goals putting up their 5th goal of the game, but it would be with about thirty second left that the Pilgrims would find their 9th goal of the game just before time ran out in the second quarter. The AMCATS would head to halftime trailing the Pilgrims 9 to 5.

The AMCATS would look to come into the third quarter strong against the Pilgrims, as they would need to put up at least 5 goals to complete the comeback against the Pilgrims. The AMCATS would come out scoring two quick goals off the stick of Raegan Hachey for the 6th goal of the game, and for her third goal of the game Riley Michaud would get the 7thgoal for the AMCATS. The AMCAST could feel the offensive momentum and the potential comeback coming as they pull within two goals of the Pilgrims. The AMCATS could not hold the Pilgrims off the scoreboard as they would add two back-to-back goals in the third goal to add to their lead 11 to 7. The AMCATS fight would continue as they would put up one more goal in the third quarter before time would run out for Riley Michaud fourth goal of the game. The AMCATS would head to the last quarter of play down to the Pilgrims 11 to 8.

The fourth quarter the AMCATS would give it all they had as they knew they had too because if they wanted to beat the Pilgrims, they must to pull out a comeback. The Pilgrims would get on the board first scoring their 12th goal of the game. But it would not be long before the AMCATS would go down the field with about nine minutes to play and get their 9thgoal of the game off a pass from Kelsey Kowal to Oliva Stump. The AMCAST had some momentum and had plenty of time to win this game but it would be the Pilgrims to control the rest of the fourth scoring the next two goals and keeping the AMCATS off the board for the rest of the game to secure the win over the AMCATS 14 to 9.
