Team Hosts US Youth Soccer 'TOPSoccer' Coaching Clinic on Campus
PAXTON, Mass. – The Anna Maria College Men's Soccer Team was featured on the October broadcast of the US Youth Soccer Show, which airs on FOX Soccer Channel.
Anna Maria College was filmed as it hosted a coaches' clinic for US Youth Soccer's TOPSoccer program on September 18.
TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers. The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who has a mental or physical disability.
The clinic on campus allowed AMCAT players, coaches, and members of the nearby Holden and Auburn Youth Soccer Associations the opportunity to learn how to set up their own TOPSoccer programs and interact with young athletes with disabilities.
"I had the chance to get involved with the TOPSoccer program that Jon Teves heads in Somerville a few years ago and was blown away by the mutual impact both the players and coaches had on each other," said Zach Rocha, Anna Maria College Men's Soccer Head Coach. "When I came to Anna Maria College this past January, introducing this program to our players and the surrounding communities was one of my top priorities."
Ray Robinson, the Director of TOPSoccer for Massachusetts Youth Soccer, and Auke Wiersma, the Region I TOPSoccer Director, taught the clinic at Anna Maria College.
