PAXTON, Mass. (9.19.11) – Lesley University scored a penalty kick to break a 1-1 tie and went on to defeat Anna Maria College 3-1 in men's soccer non-conference action on Monday night at AMCAT Field. With the win the Lynx, who took home the inaugural Highland Family Chiropractic Care Cup, improve to 5-1-1 while AMC drops to 0-6-1.
The teams remained scoreless at half time in part because of AMCATS' keeper Mike Dandurand (Warwick, RI). The senior goalkeeper had 5 saves in the first half, none better than when he stopped Jordan Santos (Middlebury, Conn.) twice on back-to-back point blank drives in the 20th minute. He finished with nine saves on the night.
Anna Maria took a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute when Enco Lika (Worcester, Mass.) scored after his direct kick deflected once off the Lynx defender Santos and then twice of off goaltender Max Perkins (Lexington, Mass.) for the score.
Lesley tied the game just 4 minutes later when Ali Sozeri (Istanbu, Turkey) drove the ball low and outside from 35 yard out to make the score 1-1.
In the 61st minute Lesley was awarded a penalty kick after an Anna Maria violation in the box. Sophomore Ari Sinanis (Guilford, Conn.) converted the shot for the 2-1 lead.
Junior Alex Fisher (East Hampton, CT) finished off the scoring with an unassisted tally in the 79th minute.
