AMC Shutout by Mustangs

PAXTON, Mass. — Anna Maria's senior goalkeeper Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) made 13 saves but it wasn't enough as Mount Ida's freshman Sierra Legge (Schodack Landing, NY) scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Mustangs women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over the AMCATS in a GNAC matchup Wednesday night at AMCAT field.

Mount Ida picks up their first conference win of the season, improving to 2-5 (1-3 GNAC) overall, while the AMCATS fall to 0-8 (0-4 GNAC) on the season.

The Mustangs kept constant pressure on the AMCAT defense all night, connecting for two goals in each half.

Legge knocked in the first goal of the game, unassisted, at the 5:30 mark to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead. At the 20 minute mark Legge got the assist on a goal by Aarika Viola (Portland, ME) to make it a 2-0 game. Legge tallied her second goal of the game just three minutes into the second half. Junior Alison Koning (Carlise, Mass.) picked up the assist. Koning scored the final goal of the game in the 57^th minute for the 4-0 final.

Freshman Jennifer Hinds led the AMCATS with one shot on net, while Mount Ida's goalkeeper Tracy Koukol (North Attleboro, Mass.) earned the shutout.

The Mustangs return to action Sunday when they host Lasell at 1:00 pm. The AMCATS will look to rebound on Saturday at 1:00 PM, as they travel to St. Joseph (CT).
