LEICESTER, MASS. – Becker College fell to Anna Maria College 4-0 in non-conference men's soccer action Thursday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the AMCATS record to 2-2, while Becker falls to 1-5.
The AMCATS got on the board 35 minutes into the game when Jeff Fletcher (Oxnard, Calif.) split the Becker defense with a long centering pass, allowing Andrei Escobar (Naples, Fla.) to break free all alone for the 1-0 advantage. Anna Maria increased their lead to 2-0 when Devaunte Maynes (Bellport, N.Y.) laced a penalty shot into the top right corner of the net. With just two seconds remaining in the first half, Enco Lika (Worcester, Mass.) connected with Fletcher, giving the AMCATS a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.
The score remained the same until the 89th minute when Maynes scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Escobar, giving Anna Maria the 4-0 win.
Anna Maria goalie Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ) turned away six shots, earning his second shutout of the season. The AMCATS return to action on Saturday, September 15th when they host Rivier College at 1:30pm.
Becker keeper Albert Tabor (Willimantic, Conn.) made three saves in a losing effort. The Hawks will try to get back on track on Saturday, September 15th when they host Bard College at 3pm.
