Peterson reaches 1,000 as AMC rolls off fifth straight GNAC win

PAXTON, Mass. – Post graduate Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI) sank two free-throws late in the game to become the 21st player in AMCAT men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 career point milestone as Anna Maria downed Rivier University 57-50 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action tonight at The Fuller Activities Center. The AMCATS are now riding a five game win streak in conference play and improve to 7-7 (5-2 GNAC) while the Raiders drop to 6-8 (2-5 GNAC).

Senior Anthony Click (Springfield, MA) led AMC with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Junior Joey Barillo (Dania Beach, FL), senior Javier Bristol (Haverhill, MA) and Peterson each contributed 9 points, while Bristol was the team leader with 9 rebounds.

Pacing the Raiders was junior Nick Walch whose stat line read 21 points, 18 rebounds and two assists.
Joey Barillo hit and opening three pointer to give Anna Maria a 3-0 and the AMCATS never trailed again. Leading by just one point at 11-10, Anna Maria rolled off a 14-5 steak to open a 24-15 lead with 8:17 left in the half. The Raiders hit back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to 4 but the AMC finished the half with an 11-4 run to take an 35-24 advantage after the first stanza. Both teams shot an identical 50% from the floor in the half.
Anna Maria opened the second half with baskets by Michael Gorman, Bristol and Barillo to build a 13-point lead with 13:39 remaining. The Raiders would not back down however and reeled off an unstoppable 20-8 run to cut the lead to one point at 49-47 with 2:14 to play. Not looking to extend their overtime streak to 3 games the AMCATS tightened their defensive belt and scored eight straight points. Hugh Daye hit a layup inside, Click added a basket and a pair of free-throws and Peterson added a pair from the charity stripe to seal the victory and hit the 1,000 point landmark.
Anna Maria will look to extend their GNAC streak when they travel to St. Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 pm tilt.
