AMCATS Fall to Curry College in Men’s Lacrosse Action
PAXTON, Mass. (03.23.13) – The Anna Maria College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 decision to visiting Curry College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at AMCAT Field. The hosts' record dips to 2-5 while Curry climbs to 6-1 on the season.
AMCATS freshman Lucas Stralka (East Greenwich, RI) notched four points (3 goals, 1 assist) while freshman Scott Henry (Coventry, RI) and senior Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ) each added two goals for AMC. Senior Kyle Falkenmeyer (Unadilla, NY) had a game-high nine ground balls, while Jacob Parker (Baldwinville, MA) won 12-of-22 face-offs.
The Colonels were led by sophomore John Castellano (Scarsdale, NY) monster day. The attack poured in ten points on four goals and six assists. Junior Connor Arnold (Clifton Park, NY) and senior Joseph Natale (Haverhill, MA) each added hat tricks for Curry in the win.
Trailing 1-0, Anna Maria tied the game at the 8:40 mark of the first quarter when senior Rod Henriques (Saugus, MA) found a streaking Summers in the slot in front of the net. Curry potted the next two goals when Castellano dished out a pair of assists to Natale and Harrison Foster for the 3-1 lead. Summers found the back of the twine for AMC for an unassisted tally to make it a one goal game at 3-2 with 3:40 to play in quarter. Curry scored late in the stanza to take a 4-2 lead after one.
AMC made it a 4-3 game when Stralka opened the second with an unassisted score, however Curry would answer with three straight to hold a 7-3 advantage heading into intermission.
The third period was a duplicate of the second, after AMC's Henriques scored his tenth goal of the season, the Colonels responded with three more goals to hold a 10-4 lead after three periods.
The AMCATS answered back to start the fourth stanza. Scott Henry worked hard down-low and outmuscled the Curry defense to score and then dished to Stralka for back-to-back goals for Anna Maria to make it a 10-6 deficit. Unfortunately, Curry would outscore AMC 3-2 down the stretch for the 13-8 victory.
Curry held a huge shot advantage (46-19), while Anna Maria won the ground ball battle (33-32).
AMC netminder Joshua Giarratano (Warwick, RI) was once again stellar between the pipes making 20 saves in the loss while his counterpart Timothy McNair had five saves in the win.
AMC travels tomorrow to Rivier College for a GNAC match-up beginning at 3:00 pm
