AMCATS Win on Senior Day

Paxton, Mass. – Anna Maria College defeated Emerson College by a score of 19-4 on senior day at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win the AMCATS improve to 9-7 (6-3 GNAC) and will be seeded third in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference playoffs. Emerson College finished their season at 1-9 (1-8 GNAC).

Seniors Brad Peterson (North Kingstown, RI), Mike Saulnier (Wrentham, Mass.), Blake Simpson (Warwick, RI), Grant Pilkington (Warwick, RI), Donald Dupray (Rowley, Mass.) and Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) were honored in a pre-game ceremony by Head Coach Mark Lange. Coach Lange thanked the players for their commitment to the just four-year-old program.

Freshman Joshua Smith (Mendon, Mass) led all scores with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists). Smith set the single game record for assists in a game by an AMCAT with five. Senior Saulnier added 6 points (5g, 1a) while junior Chris Summers (Long Valley, NJ) scored a hat trick to tie the AMCAT All-Time record for goals in a season with 45 before leaving the game with an undisclosed injury.

Emerson was led by Dan Gould (Randolph, Mass.), the senior had two goals and two assists for the Lions.

Emerson actually took a 1-0 lead on a Max Smith goal at 13:02 of the first period but right off the face-off win Josh Smith went the distance to even it at 1-1 just seven seconds later.

Blake Simpson gave AMC a 2-1 lead when he converted a pass from Baker and Saulnier made it 3-1 with a man-up goal at 7:15 of the first.

Emerson scored three out of the next four goals to even the game at 4-4 but they wouldn't score again in the game.

Anna Maria went on a 15-0 run with one minute left in the first period to the end of the game.

Freshman Richard Trappe (Beacon, NY) scored his first collegiate goal at the 14:12 mark of the fourth period.

Anna Maria had 55 shots in the game, held a 37-9 ground ball advantage, and won 24 out of 27 face-offs.

Andrew Ellis made four saves for his 9th  win of the season.
