Lady AMCATS Receive GNAC Sportsmanship Award
Paxton Mass. - Anna Maria College announces that it is the recipient of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Institutional Sportsman Award for its women’s sports teams. This recognition was announced by the Conference on Monday, May 13, 2013 when the Commissioner’s Cup and the Men’s Institutional Sportsmanship Award were also announced.
At the end of each sport season, the coaches from the colleges participating in the GNAC vote on a Sportsmanship Team for both the men’s and women’s sports teams using criteria that includes how a team conducts itself both on and off the court. At the end of the academic year, votes are compiled and then winners are announced based on the highest number of votes.
“We are extremely pleased to be awarded the Women’s Institutional Sportsmanship Award by GNAC,” comments Stanley Vieira, Director of Athletics at AMC. “The entire campus community is proud of our women athletes who live out the mission of the College both on and off the field.”
AMC offers 17 NCAA Division III men’s and women’s sports teams. Women’s teams include basketball, cross-country, field hockey (not a part of GNAC), golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball and volleyball.
